I was wondering what kind of board you paint on. I paint on hardboard treated with seven layers of homemade geletin gesso for egg tempera ptgs. I wondered if this was hardboard? I like the look!
Dominic Piperata replied:
Hi Judy. Yes, hardboard, cheap but sturdy. I get precut panels from Blick. Tried MDF once but way too heavy. Have a framer friend who preps the panels for me, acrylic gesso and fine sanding. Yields a very smooth surface. I don't favor canvas because working small (12x16 to 18x24 average), When I scan original canvas work at 600-800dpi to be able to get a large printed version, the canvas nubs look like they're the size of Kraft chewies. Egg Tempera? Wow. That medium takes some serious skillz. Henceforth, thou wilt be known as Judy the Brave. ={ ; - )
